PRESS RELEASE 22 July 2026 POSTAL VOTE DRIVE: THE RACE INSIDE THE RACE The campaign launches a postal vote push aimed at voters on fixed incomes and with limited mobility, arguing the quiet contest over who actually returns a ballot will decide the by-election. The Count Binface campaign has launched a postal vote drive in Clacton, arguing that the decisive contest in any by-election is not the one on the news but the quiet one over who actually gets a ballot back in the box. By-elections turn on turnout, and turnout turns on friction. The campaign's case is straightforward: a postal vote removes the friction. You apply once, the ballot comes to you, and you vote from your kitchen table in your own time. For older voters, voters on fixed incomes and anyone for whom a trip to a polling station on an unknown weekday in unknown weather is a genuine obstacle, that is the difference between voting and meaning to. The campaign is directing voters to gov.uk to apply for a postal vote and is reminding them that postal vote deadlines fall well before polling day, so the time to apply is now rather than later. Exact deadlines will be confirmed by Tendring District Council once the by-election timetable is set. "The headlines are about the candidates. The result is about the envelopes," said Baron Kerbside, spokesperson for the site. "I am but a Baron, but I can count, and the sums are simple: a vote you meant to cast counts for nothing, and a vote you posted from your kitchen table counts for exactly as much as anyone else's. Apply early. Vote from the comfort of your own home. Let the Count do the standing about in the cold."
